Son of John and Hannah "Beals" Conger. (John was born in 1803 at Arlington, Bennington County, Vt.), The husband of Emily (Bronson) Conger and father to Kenyon B., Arthur W. and Latham H. Conger. Col. Conger served in the Union Army of the Cumberland during the Civil War. Once discharged from the military at the end of the war, he returned to Akron, Ohio and farmed. Then in 1870 he became a director with Whitman & Miles Manufacturing Co.
When Whitman and Barnes began in 1877, Conger became president. He later became president of Akron Steam Forge Co. and of some various plate-glass companies in Indiana. Mr. Conger was also involved in several railroad companies. For a time, he was elected Summit County Treasurer. His wife, Emily would serve the post of Deputy County Treasurer under him.
