Lester Ben Spooler, 82, of Jackson died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at his home.

He was born Nov. 20, 1926, at Laflin, Mo., son of Benjamin Joseph and Clara Beel Spooler. He and Anna Clara Beus­sink were married March 27, 1951.

Spooler was a carpenter and had worked for Philip Elfrink Construction, Ray Reiminger Construction, Kenny Seabaugh Construction; was self-employed from 1975 to 1982, and worked for Liemer-Wessell Construction from 1982 until retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3rd-degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 6405 Bishop Timon, member of Leopold Saddle Club and former member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158.

He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines and South Korea.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenny (Michelle) Spooler, Kevin Spooler and Darryl (Peggy) Spooler, all of Jackson; two daughters, Sherri Pourney and Susie (Michael) Smith of Jackson; three brothers, Leonard and Gerald Spooler of Jackson, Charles Spooler of Marble Hill, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Elmer; and a sister, Minnie.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors provided.
