Naomie Buford was born August 6,1914,in Alvin,ILLinois,the daughter of Elder Clifford and Gertrude Willis Hill.She was united in Holy Matrimony to James Robert Buford,Sr.on Janurary 29,1941 and he peceded her in dealth.Naomie accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour at a early age and her devotion to Him was evident throughout her life.She was a source of inspiration to all she came in contact with and was known for her humility,giving spirit and strengh.She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mothers Board,Missionary Society,sang in the Senior Choir and taught Sunday School.Later in her life ,she became one of the founders of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church,serving on the Mothers Board and as a Sunday School teacher.Naomie Buford was also the founder of Joyland Day Care Center,the first Black owned and operated day care center in Danville.And she only charged 18.50 a week per child.She was honored as the CN Women of the Year in 1971 for her efforts in the community and her work at Joyland.She was a Women of many interest,but children,( she was a fosterand surrogate mother to many),writing poetry,reading and listening to christian music on WFOF gave her the most enjoyment.
Naomie leaves to cherish her memory three sons,James Robert Buford Jr,David Lee Buford and Robert ( Bobby )Buford.Four daughters,Trudy Jones,Alyce Crawford,Rebecca Buford-cunningham,Patricia Buford-Willis
