Funeral rites for Mrs. Ole Aasen, who passed away last Friday [Aug. 4, 1931], were held this afternoon. Rev. A. J. Eikeland officiated at the services held from the home, and from the Goose River Church, of which congregation the deceased had been a member for a great many years. The remains were laid to rest in the Goose River church cemetery.
Mrs. Aasen had been failing in health for the past two years but it was not until about two weeks ago that she had become confined to her bed. In spite of her advanced age and her failing health she had been quite active until about two weeks ago. She was born Dec. 7, 1850 on the Aasen farm in Tunhovd, Numedal, Norway, her parents being Ole Knudson Aasen and Guri Aasen. She was married to Ole Aasen October 12, 1872. In 1886 Mr. and Mrs. Aasen and their six children came to the United States and located on a farm near Hatton. They were actively engaged in farming about five miles west from Hatton until 1919 when they purchased a home in the city. They were very active members of the Goose River congregation while they lived on the farm and retained their membership in that church even after they moved to Hatton.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Aasen leaves to mourn her departure, seven children. They are Guri (Mrs. Oscar Eide) Hatton; Ole Aasen of Clearbrook, Minnesota; Knute Aasen, Margit (Mrs. John Mark), Gilbert Aasen, all of Hatton; Lewis Aasen of Grand Forks, and Bernard Aasen of Hensel, N.Dak.
Mrs. Aasen’s five sons and an adopted son, George Aasen, acted as pallbearers at the rites this afternoon. – Hatton Free Press, Sept. 10, 1931
