A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday for Katherine L. Hawkins, who went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Fortuna. She was 49 years old.
A lifelong resident of Humboldt County, Katherine was born in Eureka on June 6, 1955, to Frank and Martha Lenardo.
Katherine was a homemaker, and she also worked as a baby-sitter for many years.
She was a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary, and she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fortuna.
She is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, George J. Hawkins, Sr., of Fortuna; sons, George J. Hawkins, Jr., and wife Tammy of Scotia, Jason Hawkins and wife Christina of Fortuna; daughter, Karrie and husband Daniel Keagy of Fortuna; five grandchildren, Matthew, Alyssa, Brittany, Laura Hawkins and Lilly Keagy; godmother, Kay Cardoza; and best friend, Jill Jones, amongst many other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank, in 1997, and sister, Pauline, in 1954.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Chapel, Fortuna, where family and friends may call on Friday, June 18, 2004, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Friends are also invited to attend the Vigil Service on Friday, June 18, 2004, at 7 p.m., at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 19, 2004, at 10 a.m., Father Jim Trent celebrant. The committal service will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna. Pallbearers are Francis Hawkins, Robert Hawkins, Dan Tuey, Gary Lenardo, Floyd Whitlow and Joey Sancho.
