VANDEVENDER
Maizie Roberts VanDevender, 85, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, in Ocean Springs, Miss. She was born July 16, 1922, in Vancleave, Miss., and was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Miss. She was retired from the Jackson County School District, a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a faithful member of United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Woodrow Wilson VanDevender Sr.; her parents, Mac and Mary Roberts; her stepmother, Mattie Shepherd Roberts; brothers, R. Roberts and Cooper Roberts; and sister, Mary Patton Harris.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha VanDevender Brumfield, and her husband, Jim, of Ocean Springs; her sons, Woodrow Wilson VanDevender Jr., and his wife, Susan, of Vancleave, and David Mac VanDevender and his wife, Peggy, of Ocean Springs; grandsons, Scott Holden, Brent VanDevender and his wife, Maegan, Darren VanDevender, all of Vancleave; Briely Richmond III and Brad VanDevender, both of Ocean Springs; two great-grandchildren, Kaleigh VanDevender and Briley Richmond IV; her sister, Louise Bittle of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Roberts and Katherine Roberts.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Funeral services will follow at noon from the church sanctuary with Rev. Robbie Murden officiating.
Interment will be held at the church cemetery in Vancleave.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Scott Holden, Briley Richmond, Brent VanDevender, Darren VanDevender, David Robinson and Laurin Avara.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Harris, H.O. Walker, Steve Harris and Trey Evans.
