HEBER JEX TERRY

Heber Jex Terry passed away Dec. 26 at his home in Vernal.

He was the seventh of nine children born to Charles and Chasta Terry "in a tent between two trees" in McKinnon, Wyo., on Sept. 23. He was raised on the family ranch in McKinnon and graduated from high school in Green River, Wyo., in 1935 or 34.

Jex married Dolores Ylincheta on Dec.19, 1941, in McKinnon, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. They raised three sons, John Charles (Jack), Randall James (Randy) and Dennis Jex (DJ).

Jex was a rancher in McKinnon where he also ran a thrashing crew and timbered. He ranched in Montana for a short while before returning to Wyoming to go to work for Mountain Fuel in 1956. He retired in 1981 as a meter repairman to full-time duty building a mountain cabin and home in Vernal. His doctor encouraged him to retire because he probably wasn't going to live much longer than 90 days. Jex always worked hard, just for the fun of it.

He enjoyed his grandkids, snowmobiling and fishing. Jex was known as a storyteller with a great sense of humor. Dr. Tinker played the piano while waiting for Jex to be born, which instilled in him his love for music. He played the saxophone for dances with his family band, the Terry Tunes, for many years.

Jex was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; parents, Charles and Chasta Terry; brothers, Cleo, Dean and Merrill Terry; three sisters, Veloy Gregory, Lela Anderson and Mae Miner; one son, Randy Terry; one great-granddaughter, KayCee Herbert; and one grandson, Lane Ward.

He is survived by his sons, Jack (Shirley) Terry and DJ Terry; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clair (Beverly) Terry; one sister, Beth (Bill) Cox; one brother-in-law, Art (Jill) Ylincheta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held Dec. 29 at the LDS Glines 1st and 5th Ward Chapel, 1270 W. 1500 S., Vernal.

Interment was held at the McKinnon Cemetery in McKinnon under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
