former publisher, dies
Mayfield, Ky., Jan. 18--Funeral services for George Covington Sr., 96, of 632 S. 8th St., a former publisher of the Mayfield Messenger, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Byrn Funeral Home here with the Rev. John Huffman and the Rev. Jerry Carr officiating.
Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Covington, a former postmaster here, died Friday at 12:30 p.m. at his residence. He was a past director of the Graves County Red Cross and was active in the Graves County Democratic Party. Mr. Covington also worked as a druggish, a tobacconist, and was a member of the First Baptist Church here.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Covington; two sons, George Covington Jr. of Mayfield and Jack Covington of Abilene, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Slayden Douthitt of Jacksonville and Mrs. Earl Henry of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Red Cross or United Fund.
