Son of John Cave and Mildred Bell Cave of the Pamunkey neighborhood in Orange County, VA. This family was instrumental in the organization and early development of what is known as the Traveling Church. Several of other families involved were the Craigs, Hawkins, and Wallers.

On 24 January 1790 in Woodford county KY, Henry married Margaret Hawkins, daughter of John and Sarah Johnson Hawkins. His name appears on the Tax List for 1800, Scott County, KY. [Scott was apportioned from Woodford in 1792 so it is possible the family remained in place.]

Henry's father, John Cave was born 22 Feb 1732 in Orange county VA & died 26 May 1809 in Scott county, KY. His mother, Mildred Bell was born about 1742 in Orange county VA. She became the wife of John Cave in 1762 in Culpepper County, Virginia. Her death occurred in Scott county, KY about 1779.

He entered his claim for land in Boone county on 17 November 1818: Section 6, Township 48, Range 12 and arrived in Boone county with his brothers William Cave & Richard Cave and his sister Rebecca Cave Haden, widow of Turner Richardson Haden. His cousin Reuben Cave & wife Catherine Haydon were also with this group.
