Herbert Reason Tennant departed this life Saturday (Nov. 24, 2012).

He was born May 7, 1927 at Jakes Run, the only son of the late Lias Tennant and the late Ola Pearl Park Tennant Lake. He was married to Nedra Olive Toothman Tennant for 55 years, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Julia Starkey and husband Mike of Jakes Run, and Rebecca Sine and husband Roger of McSherrytown, Pa.; his only son, Roy Tennant and wife Lori of Mooresville; five grandsons and one granddaughter, Stephen Starkey and wife Missy, Matthew Starkey and wife Carmen, Robert Sine, Joseph Sine, David Tennant and Elizabeth Tennant; and two sisters, Jane Jones of Core, and Jeanette Ammons and husband Joe of Baxter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Barbara Lynne Tennant; and three sisters, Vivian Thorne, Lucille Feley and Velma Tennant.

Herbert was a graduate of Clay Battelle High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, in which he served for 20 years. He was an Elder of Pumpkin Center Church of Christ, preaching the gospel for 61 years at different congregations.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel in Fairview, from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday. The body will lie in state at Pumpkin Center Church of Christ from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with Evangelist Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery in Mooresville, with a flag-folding ceremony at graveside.
