9 of Her 19 Grandchildren Are in Armed Forces

Mrs. Martha Patten, 79, one of Plymouth's most highly esteemed women, died at 5:30 yesterday afternoon at her home, 92 Academy Street, that borough, after a lingering illness of general debility.
The funeral will be held from the home on Saturday afternoon with services in charge of Rev. William F. Paul of Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, Plymouth. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery.
Mrs. Patten was born in Plymouth and spent her entire life there. Her husband died about 30 years ago. She was a member of Franklin Street PM Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Esther Cooper, at home; five sons, Walter and Irvin, Plymouth; Robert and Joseph, Larksville, and Ernest, West Nanticoke; two brothers, William and Joseph Ellis, and two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Humphreys and Mrs. Cora Samies, all of Plymouth.
Nineteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Nine of her grandsons are in the armed forces.
