Ernest Patten, 75, of 59 W. Poplar St., West Nanticoke, died Wednesday at his home. He was born in Plymouth and resided in West Nanticoke since 1932: A veteran of World War I, he served in the- First Division in Europe, participating in battles of the Ausne-Marne, St. Mihiel and both engagements of Meuse-Argonne. He was cited for gallantry in the Meuse-Argonne defense, received the Mexican Service Medal while with the Mexican Border Patrol and the French Fourragere and Silver Star. Mr. Patten attended St. Xavier College, Louisville. Ky., and formerly was employed by George F. Lee Coal Company. He was a member of West Nanticoke United Methodist Church and Plymouth American Legion Post. His wife, the former Hilda Roberts, died in 1956. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Schultz West Nanticoke; sister, Mrs. Ethel Cooper, Plymouth; two grandchildren. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Shavertown.
