Edward was the first child born to Anna & Albert Loft. When he was a few months old his parents moved to Chicago Illinois. His father Albert had an uncle that lived there. Albert got a job in a cement factory bagging cement. Albert & Anna had desire to farm so saved every possible penny with the hope their dream would come true. Albert walked to & from work everyday saving sixty cents a week in street car fares. When his uncle Nels came to visit them & had a offer to rent land in Alberta Canada they were eager to go. They arrived in Milk River Alberta in April 1914. They lived & rented a farm about 7 miles north of Milk River until Edward was age 9 years old. Edward took his schooling in Milk River as there was no country school at that time. Edward rode a horse weather permitting this was a long cold ride at times. In December 1921 they moved to there own land & home 2 miles north of Milk River. In the spring of 1928 when he was 15 Edward became ill with polio his right leg became paralyzed & he was in bed for a month. He was finally able to walk on crutches & gradually walked without them. One of his sister also had also. His brother Art ha slept with me but did not get it.
In the summer of 1930 his parents took the family to Denmark to meet there grandparents. They lived close to the ocean. Edward biked almost everyday to go swimming in the ocean. This was a great therapy & strengthened his leg.
In 1932 at there house they erected a thirty two volt Jacobs windcharger. It had sixteen storage batteries stored in there basement. They got running water & bathroom facilities also a refrigerator & other appliances. Albert also added more land to the farm & built a grain elevator on the land. 1948 they got Calgary power they sold there Jacob's windcharger at that time. Edward enjoys playing pool , curling in the winter & swimming which he did whole life. In 1972 Edward married Edith (Hummel) Kihn. They bought a home in Milk River where they lived there married life together. Edward continued to farm from town until 1982 when he retried to enjoy the easy life. Edward had no children born to him.
