Gayle Jacobsen Haws, 88, passed away Saturday December 22, 2012, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Gayle was born June 3, 1924 in Logan, Utah to Irvine Jacobsen and Mary Gurnell Checketts. She was reared and educated in the Logan City Schools and graduated from Utah State University with an English teaching degree. In college she was active in student life, yearbook manager, ROTC Sponsors, and Chi Omega Sorority. After graduation she taught at Logan Junior High School, then spent her time raising and teaching her children before returning to her profession at Logan High School. She loved grammar, literature, Shakespeare, words, but most of all students and they loved her!!

She married Frank Wilmore Haws in the Logan LDS Temple and they were blessed to enjoy 58 fun, love-filled years. They have three children, eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. Family was her greatest treasure.

Gayle has a long history of faithful service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. She held many ward and stake leadership positions including Young Women President, Relief Society Counselor and President but her favorite calling was teaching in any organization. She was an awesome gospel doctrine teacher and actually taught Relief Society up until a year ago. She was a woman of faith who always taught us the power of prayer.

Optimistic by nature, Gayle enjoyed being active in PTA, Literati, DUP, and USU Emeriti. She was a talented poet, seamstress, cook, mom, grandma, and great grandma. She was a "people" person with a giving nature who loved sharing money, treats, and friendship.

She is survived by her children, MyrLynn Moulton (Dale), of Fruit Heights, Utah, Jay Haws, (Kathleen) Sandy, Utah, and Nancy Stewart (Frank) of Logan, Utah.

The funeral services will be held at noon Saturday December 29, 2012 at the Logan 10thWard Building, 500 East 800 North. Friends and relatives may call from 6-8 pm Friday at the Allen Hall Mortuary and from 10:30-11:30 Saturday at the church. Internment will be at the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family on line at www.allenmortuaries.net.
