From The Herald Journal (Logan, UT) - Monday, September 16, 1974:

Mrs. Mary Gurnell Jacobsen, 83, died Sunday night at her home. She was born Jan. 31, 1891 in Providence, a daughter of William and Mary Ann Reading Checketts.

She spent her early life in Providence and married Irving Jacobsen Sept. 28, 1911 in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death Nove. 26, 1935.

Mr. Jacobsen had worked as a clerk for Edwards Millinery and as a seamstress for Carlisle Manufacturing Co. and Mode O'Day. She was active in the LDS Church serving in the Primary and Relief Society. At the time of her death she was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alma (Norma) Barfuss, River Heights, and Mrs. Frank (Gayle) Haws, Logan. Two sons, Sylvan and Darrell Jacobsen, preceded her in death.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leslie Checketts, Preston; Floyd and Hazen Checketts, Providence; Lyman Checketts and Lee Checketts, Logan; sisters Lola Jensen, Providence; Hazel Carlisle, Logan, and Carmen Peterson, Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Hall Mortuary Chapel, under direction of Bishop Farrell Black. Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday one hour prior to funeral. Burial will be in Logan City Cemetery.
