William... a member of Zion's Camp, was the oldest son of Reynolds Cahoon and Thirza Stiles. William had six siblings: Lerona Eliza, Pulaski Stephen, Daniel Stiles, Andrew, Julia Amina, and Mahonri Horiancumer. He came with his parents to Kirtland in 1825, and heard the Elders (Oliver Cowdery, Parley P. Pratt and others) preach the gospel.

He was baptized Oct. 16, 1830, by Parley P. Pratt, was ordained a Priest and filled a mission to the States of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York in 1832-1833, filled another mission in 1833, and in 1834 went to Missouri with Zion's Camp, returning to Kirtland Nov. 17, 1834. When the first quorum of Seventy was organized the following spring he was ordained a member of that quorum.

He labored on the Kirtand Temple until that building was completed in 1836.

He married Nancy Miranda Gibbs on January 17, 1836 in Kirtland, Geauga (now Lake County), Ohio. The Prophet Joseph Smith performing the ceremony. They had twelve childre: Mary Annie, Nancy Ermina, Lerona Eliza, John Farrington, Prudence Sarah Ermina, Thirza Vilate, William Marion, Daniel Coyton, Joseph Mahonri, Henry Reynolds, Stephen Tiffany, and Andrew Carlos.

He later married Mary Wilson Dugdle on September 23, 1845 in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois. They had four children: James Cordon Casson, Samuel Casson, Mary Ellen Casson, and George Edward Casson.

On Feb. 15, 1846, he crossed the Mississippi River and joined the companies of saints on Sugar Creek, arriving in the "Valley" Sept. 24, 1849. (LDS Biographical Encyclopedia, Andrew Jenson, Vol. 4, pp.687-88).

William died in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is buried there.
