Lucius was the son of John and Susan Benedict Boughton of Connecticut and New York with siblings: Orlando, Celcia, Oscar, Solon, Corydon, Mariette, Elon, Sanford, Theodore, Hester, and Emma. Lucius was a harness maker. He married Margaret Grissinger on 28 October 1858 in Ashland County, Ohio, and they had Ella (1859-1860), Ambrose Elon (1861-1923) , Susan Alice (1864-1937)(Simmons), and Bertha Grace (1873-1962).(Blystone). Lucius died from a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 76 years 8 months and 5 days.
