Ambrose was the son of Lucius and Margaret Grissinger Boughton from New York and Pennsylvania and had siblings: Ella (1859-1860), Susan Alice (1864-1937)(Simmons), and Bertha Grace (1873-1962).(Blystone). By 1870, he was living in Wood County with his mother and sister, Susan. Ambrose married Ida Hall on 6 December 1886 in Wood County and they had no children although Ida had one from her previous marriage. Ambrose was a bicycle repairer and did construction work. He died from septicemia at the age of 61 years 4 months and 27 days.
