John F. Hickey, 72, whose lunch cart called Hickey's Diner was a Taunton landmark for 40 years, died Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital of a heart condition. Husband of the former Rita Levesque of Taunton's Whittenton section, he had retired in 1986 after undergoing heart surgery. Hickey, of 8 Fayette Place, Taunton, was known throughout the city as proprietor of the traveling diner, which did a brisk business every day at the corner of Taunton Green. Hickey and his wife, parents of eight children, were honored by the city on Hickey's retirement in 1986, at which time Mayor Richard Johnson announced plans for possible future use of the lunch cart. Freshly restored by students at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, the diner was a highlight of the city's 350th anniversary parade Jun 04.
