BUSINESS, CIVIC LEADER E.S. HOLT DIES

Edward S. Holt, 67, civic leader and retired president of Utah Oil Refining Co., died of a heart ailment Saturday evening, New Year's Eve, at his home. He was born in Paris, Ky, May 4th, 1893. He attended grade school there and ventured into the oil industry at age 18 as an employee of The Texas Co. He came to Salt Lake City in 1913 when the Texas Co. acquired an interest in Utoco. In 1915 Mr. Holt was named Superintendent of the Salt Lake Refinery. Although in semi-retirement since 1955, he also retained his position as Vice President of Equity Oil Company.

In 1934 he was named Vice President in charge of manufacturing at Utoco. In 1947 he was named President of Utoco, and produced a larger percentage of aviation gasoline per barrel of crude than any other refinery in the world. He was a member or past member of The Salt Lake Rotary Club, Alta Club, Salt Lake Country Club, and The Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce board of directors, just to name a few.

He's survived by his widow Abigail; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald P. (Mary) Larsen, Salt Lake City; and a sister, Mrs. E. Q. Sanford, Louisville, Ky.
