Last Rites Held For Mike Maruska At Reno Church:
Funeral services for Mike Maruska were held Tuesday, June 16, 1953 at 9:15 a.m. at the Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood and at 10 a.m. from St. John Nepomuk Church in Lake Reno. Rev. Thomas Shadeg officiated. Rosary services were held Monday night, June 15 at the Hoplin Funeral Home. Interment was made in St. John Neomuk Cemetery in Lake Reno. Pallbearers were Frank Koudella, Ben Rice, Wencil Chan, Wencil Chrmak, Henry Koudella and Frank Dvorsak. Mike Maruska was born Jan. 9, 1858, in Bohemia, the son of Frank and Mary Maruska, and passed away at the age of 95 years and five months. He came to New Prague, Minn., at the age of one and one-half. He has been a resident of the Holmes City township for 72 years. Survivors include three sons, Frank on the home farm near Lowry, Anton and Jim of Battleview, N.D., two daughters, Mrs. Victor Grubb of Lowry and Mrs. W. R. Guiles of Farwell. Nineteen grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren also survie. Mr. Maruska passed away at the Glenwood Community hospital on Friday, June 12. He had suffered a fractured hip on June 7th and this injury along with infirmities of old age caused his death.
