NORFOLK — Funeral services for Delbert E. Baxter, 99, a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home will be held Monday in Norfolk. Burial will be in the West Stockholm Cemetery.
Mr. Baxter died Thursday evening (May 22, 1986) at the nursing home.
Surviving are three sons, Gaylord and Allen, both of Norfolk, Darrell of Chase Mills; three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Dorothy) Arquette of Brookdale, Mrs. Daniel (Ruth) Roach of Ogdensburg, Mrs. Lawrence (Irene) Smith of Canton.
A daughter, Mrs. Doris Brothers, died March 23, 1986; also two sons, Roy, who died in 1924 and William, who died in 1933.
Mr. Baxter was born in Norfolk on Dec. 18, 1886, son of Laban and Alice Corey Baxter. He married Leora Nichols in February of 1920. She died March 5, 1933.
He was a self-employed carpenter and farmer in the Norfolk area.
Mr. Baxter was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and camping. While living in the nursing home, he was well known for his creative building experiences,, including several handcrafted toys and gadgets. His works were displayed at the Ogdensburg Public Library and were featured in the Feb. 4, 1979 "At Your Leisure." section of the Advance News. He was a member of the Norfolk Wesleyan Methodist Church
