Darrell D Baxter, 72, of 412 Dishaw Road, died at 2 am Sunday in Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.
Mr. Baxter was a general mechanic at Aluminum Company of America, Massena, until his retirement in 1990.
Born June 14, 1928, in North Stockholm, son of Delbert and Lenore Nichols Baxter, he attended Norfolk schools. He married Anne G Ford on Nov. 25, 1948, at St. Lawrence Church, Louisville, with the Rev. Wilfred A Nugent officiating.
He was a member of the Alcoa 25-year club, a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 10753 and a past member of the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Mark D and Carol, Okinawa; eight daughters and five sons-in-law, Jane E Jones and Patricia L Baxter, both of Chase Mills, Carol and Dick Beaulieu and Lisa A Baxter, all of Webster, Susan A and Paul Pierce, Flackville, Martha and Rocco Porcellio, Fairport; Theresa and Chris Knopp, East Rochester, and Karen and Timothy Sullivan, Chili; a brother Gaylord, Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Gordon(Dorothy)Arquette, Norwood, Ruth Roach, Ogdensburg, and Irene Smith, Canton; 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 am Thursday at St. Lawrence Church with the Rev. Everett Denesha officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at Phillips Memorial Home, Massena, with members of Knights of Columbus Council 10753 and fouth-degree members of Assembly 710, Massena, meeting at 8 pm.
