Herald Coaster, March 17, 1966:

Funeral services for Shirley Austin Beard, Sr., 67, of the Long Point Community, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist Church of Rosenberg, Texas. Mr. Beard passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Houston Saturday, March 12, after six weeks hospitalization.

He was born at Big Creek on January 12, 1899 and has been engaged in farming and ranching in Fort Bend County. A life-long resident of this county, his father was one of Austin's first colony pioneers. He was a member of the Morton Lodge #72 A.F. & A.M., Arabian Temple Shrine of Houston, Fort Bend County Historical Committee, Fort Bend County Council for Retarded Children, and other organizations.

Rev. Lewis Risinger, pastor of the Methodist Church of Needville, of which Mr. Beard was a member, officiated at the services.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Etta Beard; three daughters, Mrs. Wilborn Rayner of Anahuac, Mrs. Lee Filla of Angleton, and Miss Barbara Ann Beard of Long Point; three sons, S.A. Beard Jr. and David Beard of Long Point, and Pierce Beard of Centerville; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Brumbelow of Long Point and Mrs. Clara Brumbelow of Clute; and five grandchildren.

Interment was made in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.
