Sidney Bennett Beard, more commonly known as "Sid", died at his home near Damon very suddenly Sunday night from a stroke of paralysis. When the attack came on, a doctor was summoned but Mr. Beard died before the physician arrived. He passed away at 11:40.
The deceased was born and reared in the vicinity of his death, having first seen the light of day near the Tadpole community, and all his life having lived not so far away. He owned a nice property in Richmond and was a very frequent visitor here, where he was quite well-known.
The funeral services were held at the Union Church in Damon Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock after which the body was interred in the Damon Cemetery with Masonic rites. Mr. Beard was a member of Morton Lodge at Richmond.
Of a thrifty nature, the deceased was also a shrewd and careful trader and was never dependent upon anyone. He had spent practically all of his life as a rancher and stockman and in his idle time bought and sold and traded property, cattle, or whatever came to hand. He was honest in his dealings and had a host of friends.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Wilma Beard; three sons, S.S. Beard Jr., Robert, and Travis Beard; one brother, S.A. Beard of Needville; and four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Brumbelow, Mrs. Clara Brumbelow, Mrs. Nellie Duty, and Mrs. Edna Berry, all of this county.
A large number of Richmond people went to the funeral Tuesday afternoon, which was the most largely attended ever seen in Damon.
