Rev. Arch McKinley Byrd
Rev. Arch Byrd, age 85 of the Kents Ridge section of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2005 at his home following a lengthy illness. Born in Tazewell County, Virginia he was the son of the late Wesley & Lula Mary Simmons Byrd. He was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA. He was minister of the Red Ash Free Pentecostal Church of God for many years.


In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Otis Byrd, William Byrd & Homer Byrd & three sisters, Lillie Proffitt, Goldie Addison & Stella Vandyke.


He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Ozella Byrd; four daughters, Mary Hill & husband James of Raven, Lettie Nichols & husband Dwrey of Richlands, Shirley Justus & husband Truitt of Raven & Dianna Breedlove & husband James of Pounding Mill; two sons, Edward Byrd & wife Mary of Raven & Nathaniel Byrd & wife Dawn of Cedar Bluff; one brother, Earbie Byrd of Pounding Mill; two sisters, Sue Branch of Blacksburg & Thelma Hampton of GA; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren & 9 great great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Rev. Bill Marcum & Rev. Jess Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Saturday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
