He was a retired coal miner and enjoyed the outdoors, carpentry, fishing but mostly going to church. He has spent his life working and enjoying providing for his family and home. He will be sadly missed by his family members, relatives, friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Byrd; one daughter, Dottie Oliver of Taylor, Michigan ; one son, Jerry E. Byrd of Seneca, NC; four brothers, Otis Byrd, Arch Byrd, Homer Byrd and Bill Byrd; five sisters Stella Vandyke, Thelma Hampton, Sue Branch, Goldie Addison and Lillie Proffitt.
Those left to cherish his memory are six children, Donald H. Byrd of Martinsville, Virginia, Alma J Anders of Pounding Mill, Virginia, Carlos W. Byrd of Holiday, Florida, Paul Wayne Byrd of Roanoke, Virginia, Rickey Byrd of N. Tazewell, Virginia and Darrell Byrd of Bristol, Virginia. Twenty three grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank the caring people who provided love and care for our father. Especially nieces, personal care givers, Helping Hands and CVMC staff.
Family will receive friends on Thursday October 13, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel, Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Services will be held on Friday October 14, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Buddy Herald officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
