LOSS OF THUMB CAUSES TETANUS AND MAN DIES
Michael Karaff Hurt In Shredder That Caused Another Death Michael Karaff, farmer of seven miles southeast of Kirksville, died in a hospital here yesterday afternoon, following an illness with tetanus, which developed from the loss of a thumb on his right hand.

The accident occurred on Jan. 2, when Mr. Karaff was shredding corn, the thumb being caught in the same shredder in which C. A. Robinson was fatally injured several years ago. Karaff was 52 years old. He lost a finger on his right hand in a mine accident in Iowa a few years ago.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Mary Immaculate here Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Father Curry. Burial will be made in Highland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Karaff was born in Austria (2005- now Vechec, Slovakia) but lived in America a number of years. He is survived by his wife Mary, and a number of children.

The children who survive him are George Karaff, Sublette, Mrs. Anna Biros, Mrs. Mary Patton, both of near Kirksville, and John, Joe, Raymond, Eugene, and Julia, all living at home.
