HISTORY:
Raymond Paul Karaff was born and reared on a farm southeast of Kirksville, MO in Adair County.
He was the son of Michael and Mary (Sisak) Karaff, and the first of their children to be born in Missouri after moving here from Iowa.
He received his elementary education at Rural Dell School, and attended Junior High school in Kirksville. He was inducted into the United States Navy during World War II, serving on a ship in the Pacific arena.
After his brother Joe left home, he worked the family farm with his mother until his marriage to Betty. He then worked for the Ford Garage in Edina, MO, as their mechanic. Gary Paul, their first child, was born in 1949.
In 1952, they moved to Kansas City, MO, where Raymond worked for the Ford Motor Company for 31.5 years, the last several years as a foreman. He retired in May 1983. Now spends his summers working at the ball park for the Little League Baseball Association.
Betty works for Sears Roebuck & Company in Kansas City. She has been with them for eleven years. Before her marriage to Raymond, she had worked as a secretary in Kirksville.
Their two younger children, Ramah Lou and Neil, were born in Independence, MO, where they lived when first moving to the Kansas City area.
Raymond has always been a baseball fan, but he likes to cook too. Prepares one of his Mother's favorite dishes to be served at the Karaff Family Reunion each year. He and Betty are very doting grandparents.
