After several months of illness Mrs. Louise Wempen Duke of Redlands, Calif., widow of Dr. Victor L. Duke, died Monday afternoon at Loma Linda sanitorium near Redlands.
Mrs. Duke was born in Alton and resided there until 1910 when her husband was called to California to accept the presidency of Redlands University. Prior to his departure from Alton Dr. Duke having been acting president of Shurtleff College. Dr. Duke preceded his wife in death nine years ago.
With Mrs. Duke at the time of her death was her sister, Miss. Carolyn Wempen, who left for Redlands immediately after close of school in June. Miss. Wempen dean of girls at Alton high school, had taken leave of absence from her position.
J. E. Wempen, a brother of Mrs. Duke, was summoned to California Sunday by a telephone call and departed with Mrs. Wempen Monday for Redlands. Also surviving is another sister, Mrs. P. W. Cruze of Alton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning in Redlands.
