Sarah is the daughter of Rev. David Oram and Mary Pamelia Purdy. She married Charles Reid Laskie on 25 January 1868, in Brooklyn, Yarmouth. Her birth date is per the 1901 census record, place is per all census records.


Sarah and Charles were both working on the ship Celeste Burrill, in at least 1886. The vessel was registered out of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. They joined the ship on 27 July 1886, in St-John, New Brunswick. Charles worked as a cook and Sarah worked as a Stewardess. The were discharged from the ship at the end of the voyage on 31 August 1886, in Perth, Wales.


On the 1891 shows that Charles, Sarah and their daughter were staying with Sarah's father and sister. Charles was listed as a cook and Sarah as a stewardess.
