Donald E. Baker, 84, Shreve, passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Akron General Medical Center.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ripley Church of Christ, 12298 County Road 330, Big Prairie, with Pastor Tom Benter officiating.

Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery where military rites will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ripley Church of Christ Missionary Ministry directed to IDES (International Disaster Emergency Services) or to the Heifer International Fund. Online condolences may be shared with the family at schlabachfh.com.

He was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Williamsfield to Paul and Leo (Klingler) Baker and married Faye Friend on March 25, 1956. She survives.

He retired from Rubbermaid following 39 years of service. Don was a member of the Ripley Church of Christ where he taught Sunday School, served as a deacon, was a youth group leader, and served on the Missions Ministry. He graduated from "the old Shreve High." He was a member of Shreve American Legion and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He loved gardening and was an accomplished horseman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sharon Delgadillo of Shreve; a son, Roger (Diane) Baker of Wooster; a very special granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Baker; a brother, Raymond (Margaret) Baker of Shreve; two sisters, Marie (Robert) Houghton of Wooster and Marian Sherry of Safety Harbor, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Baker of Shreve and Lou Geib of Killbuck.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brother-in-laws: Emmabelle (Paul) Acker, Evelyn (Russell) Rudy, and Joanne Baker; two brothers, Robert Baker and Richard Baker; one sister-in-law, Ruth Baker; and two brothers-in-law, Andrew Kachmar and William Sherry.
