They called her Pen. She never married. She was first diagnosed with cancer before she was 20 years old. She had 4 or 5 operations- first her breast and later other organs removed and basically fought it her whole life. She lived to be 65 years old and died of cancer. When she was first diagnosed with cancer she was engaged to be married but her fiance called it off. Source: Marie Adelmann Luce 2001 (sister).
