A memorial service to celebrate the life of Alberta Bethel Clark born Oct. 17, 1916 in Osborn, Mont. to Orville and Ada Clark will be held August 7 at 2 p.m., in the Chapel at The Abernethy Center, 606 15th St. Oregon City.
After graduating from Billings High School in 1934, Bertie bravely came to Portland to attend St. Vincent's School of Nursing and proudly graduated in 1938. Following graduation, she returned to Billings and married Robert "Bob" Bridenbaugh who was then a medical student at Northwestern. During his residency at Mayo Clinic, Bob chose to serve his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. This took them to Illinois, California and Maryland before returning to Montana and Wyoming to continue their careers and raise their family. Dr. Bridenbaugh joined the VA in 1952 and they moved to Portland in 1954 where he worked at the VA Hospital until his death in 1964. In 1967, she married George P. Dahl and moved to Lincoln City where they owned and operated Tree 'n Sea Trailer Park and the Bayview Motel. They moved to Milwaukie in 2006 and lived at Homewoods until George died in 2010. Alberta had many talents! She was a nurse in Bob's clinics and later at Emanuel Hospital. She continued her love of reading her whole life along with crossword puzzles. She was an amazing homemaker, seamstress, cook, gardener, knitter, artist, friend, neighbor, animal, bird and plant lover, swimmer, advisor and health expert. She always warmly welcomed anyone who came to her home. She was a genuinely kind, strong and positive woman who gave unconditional love to everyone around her always putting others first.
She is survived by three children, Harlan Bridenbaugh, Susie Bridenbaugh and Becky Jahns; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and in her stepfamily, three children; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Bertie has requested that bright colors be worn to her "Celebration of Life" service. Children were dear to her heart!
