Reginald "Shag" Smathers died Friday in Anaconda.
He was born to Velma and James Smathers in Murray County, Okla., May 11, 1936.
He married Edna Mae "Dixie" Duffy on June 30, 1956. They lived most of their married lives in Anaconda. Two children were born to the union, Frank T. and Mary A.
Shag worked for the Anaconda Co., Montana State Prison, Galen State Hospital, and Montana State Hospital, Warm Springs, retiring in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Roy and Lola Lyle.
Shag is survived by his son, Frank (Verdon); daughter, Mary (Ed) Carroll; grandchildren, Selena Lo Vetere (John) and Debbie Smathers; brothers, Ross (Bertha), Ronald (Marie), and Roland (Sue); many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in KT Riddle Funeral Home Chapel.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the KT Riddle Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
