MAPLE GROVE MAN FINDS BODY OF WIFE HANGING IN GRANARY
WM. DRUMM RETURNS FROM CHEESE FACTORY TO FIND WOMAN MISSING, SEARCH REVEALS DEAD BODY
MRS. DRUMM HAD BEEN ILL, DESPONDENCY PROMPTED ACT
Despondent over continued ill health, her mind probably unbalanced, Mrs. William Drumm, a well-known town of Maple Grove woman, committed suicide early this morning by hanging, at her home two miles from Reedsville.
Mrs. Drumm’s dead body was found hanging from a rafter in the granary on the farm. Mrs. Drumm ended her life during the absence of her husband from the farm, when he visited the cheese factory to deliver milk. Mr. Drumm left home about 6 and upon his return at 7 found his wife absent from the house. Believing that Mrs. Drumm had left the house to visit the barn or some of the buildings on the farm, Mr. Drumm prepared for his day’s work. Visiting the granary to attend to some chore he found the door open and upon entering made the ghastly discovery of his wife’s body hanging from the rafters of the building. Mr. Drumm hurriedly cut the body down and called for assistance in an effort to revive the woman but it was futile, death having occurred some time previously. The body was removed to the house and efforts were continued in the hope of recalling a spark of life, while a physician was summoned. The physician said Mrs. Drumm had been dead some time.
Mrs. Drumm was 35 years old and is survived by her husband and two children, the oldest 12 and the youngest four years old.
She had been in ill health for some time past and is said to have been a patient at a Milwaukee sanatorium for a time but her condition showed no improvement and she returned to her home at Maple Grove.
Report of the death of Mrs. Drumm and the circumstances attending was made to District Attorney E.S. Schmitz this morning, and it was stated that the case was suicide and no inquest was necessary.
