After emigrating to the U.S.A. in 1888, she married Louis Bombach in 1894, probably in New Jersey.
Katie had 4 sisters and 2 brothers: Rose (Shafer) Burkhardt, Paterson, NJ; Regina (Schafer) Teitsch, Troy, NY; Friedricka (Schafer) Amann, Mechanicville, NY; Wilhelmina (Minnie) (Schafer) Schroeder, Mechanicville, NY; George Charles Schafer, Mechanicville, NY; Frederick Schafer, Bronx, NY and Karl Schafer who, presumably, died young in Germany.
Katie bore Louis two sons: Lenhardt (Leonard) Bombach and Frederick Bombach (Birth Cert. says: Frederick Bombach while death certificate says Louis Fred Bombach, however, Frederick appears to be the correct first name).
Lenny was born 25 June 1897 in New Jersey. He later married Laura Keenan of Troy, NY, the daughter of Dr. John Keenan. Lenny and Laura resided most of their lives in Watervliet, NY.
Leonard was an accomplished violinist and an expert machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal. Lenny died in March of 1983. They had no children. Leonard and Laura are interred in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet, NY.
On February 25th, 1901, Katie gave birth to her second son, Frederick Bombach. (Birth cert. reads Frederic, while death cert. reads Louis Fred). Fred lived only 5 days, sucumbing on March 1st, 1901, to jaundice and anemia. Fred was also buried on his death day, March 1st, 1901. The following day, March 2nd, Katie died of puerpural peritonitis following childbirth. She was buried on March 5th, 1901.
Katie's husband, Louis, apparently returned to New Jersey, where he died on April 21, 1917. He is interred with Katie and Frederick in the Schafer plot in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville, NY. Katie and baby Frederick's grave site is in Section Vw-69-7. Louis is buried in Section Vw-69-8.
Presently, there are no stones to mark these interments. These 3 interments are to the immediate right of George and Rosina Schafer's stones.
