Mechanicville - George C. Schafer, 66, died last night at his home, 136 First St., following a week's illness.
Mr. Schafer was born in Germany and came to Mechanicville when he was nine years old. He was employed by the New York State Department of Public Works, division of canals for more than 30 years. He was a member of the J. L. Short Hook and Ladder Co., the Foresters and the Shepards of America.
Survivors are one brother, Fred Schafer of New York; two sisters, Mrs. R. Amann and Minnie Schafer, this city and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral in charge of J. Dwight Dunn, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the residence. The Rev. Robert Fillmore, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hudson View Cemetery.
