Thomas Edmonds of McLouth Dies Suddenly

Thomas Edmonds, aged 84 years, brother of former senator Matt Edmonds and oldest brother of the well known Edmonds family, died at his home in McLouth, Kansas, at 3 o'clock Sunday morning, following a stroke of apoplexy on the day previous.
He had attended the Old Settlers Reunion at Oskaloosa on Friday, where a "59" badge was pinned on him and where he greeted many of the pioneer citizens of the county.
Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds had resided at their present home since moving from their farm north of town about thirteen years ago. The deceased, "Uncle Tom." as he was known to a host of intimate friends, had lived in and around McLouth since the winter of 1859, having moved from Chicago to this locality at the age of 19, coming West with his parents.
Mr. Edmonds was born in Manouthshire, England, April 20, 1839. At the age of 10 years he moved with his parents to America, crossing the sea on a sailing vessel in the year 1849. The family first settled in Pennsylvania, moving from there to Fon du Lac, Wis., where they stayed only a short time before going to Chicago, when they moved to Kansas City in 1850. Elizabeth Grifiths, then four year old, the girl who later became the bride of Mr. Edmonds, crossed from England to America on the same boat. The parents of the two children had been neighbors in England.
Their marriage took place May 18, 1865, at Fond du Lac, Wis. Nine children were born of this union, all of who survive except James and Miss Leah. sons of the deceased are William T., Elijah and Ralph Edmonds of McLouth, T. V. Edmonds of Blue Mount, A. J. Edmonds of Powell, Wyo., and Guy Edmonds of Leavenworth. One daughter survives, Rachael of Parsons, Kans. Thirty grandchildren and one great-grandchild, little Miss Call of McLouth, also survive.
The deceased was a devoted church worker, having joined the United Brethen church when a young man, and having served as superintendent of Round Grove and Edmonds church Sunday school for almost forty years
