Daughter of Archibald Tait, later Archbishop of Canterbury, and his wife Catharine. She and four of her five sisters all died within a few weeks of each other of virulent scarlet fever. Only her newborn sister Lucy and her brother Craufurd survived. The Taits later had two more daughters, Edith and Agnes.
