Henrich Becker, steam-miller at Serbin, and his wife, Helena nee Kasper had a stillborn son at 6 a.m. on Monday, 29 December 1873 and buried him the same day in St Paul's Cemetery, Serbin, Texas. Pastor Kilian gave the standard prayer at the grave. He is survived by his parents, one brother, one sister, and one grandmother. (Carl Sawizki and Preuss were gravediggers.)

The following obituary was originally written in German by Pastor Jan Kilian and transliterated by Martin Strauch, translated into English by Weldon Mersiovsky, and provided by the Texas Wendish Heritage Society:

We give humble thanks to the true God, our heavenly father for protecting Helena, wife of Henry Becker, steam miller in Serbin, during the delivery of her stillborn son at 6:00 last Monday morning. May the faithful protector of Israel grant to the long suffering mother preservation and strengthening of health, through his faithful preservation from all evil and accidents. Grant her happy weeks and at the same time, church attendance. With regard to the son, who could not see the light of this world, we take comfort in His powerful grace, for the sake of His only begotten Son, our Lord and Savior. Amen

At the same time, we remember that the pale body of this stillborn child, which was the son of the marriage of Henry Becker and his wife Helena née Kasper, received a Christian burial last Monday afternoon with blessings at the grave.

May the Lord comfort the bereaved father and mother; a brother Gustav; a sister Pauline; a bereaved grandmother Anna, surviving widow of John Pampel; and all the relatives near and far.

Thank you to all those who have at this sad occasion demonstrated their sympathy, help and last honor for the child, namely the grave diggers and fellow mourners.

For the last honoring memory the hymn 376, “What God Does Is Always good,” will be sung.
