Joan was born March 4, 1924 in Seymour, Texas to Andy and Myrtle Gough Bowie, and was raised in Seymour. When WWII began, Joan, her mother, and sisters Evelyn and Elizabeth moved to Amarillo, Texas to help in the War Effort. Joan worked on the army base, and her mother and sister Evelyn worked at Pantex assembling bombs. Joan met and married Floyd Tuttle in September 1942 in Amarillo, Texas. She went with Floyd to several army bases while he trained, and near the end of the war, Floyd was sent to the Philippines. Joan went to Kentucky to live with her husband's family until he returned after the end of the war in 1945. Floyd remained in the army until 1948. Son Floyd, Jr. was born in 1949. Floyd worked civil service at Sheppard AFB until he retired in 1983. He died in 1994. Joan was a homemaker who had worked several jobs in her life. She farmed, car hopped, worked as a nurse's aid in nursing homes and the old Wichita General Hospital, and had been a caregiver for elderly women.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Tuttle, Sr.; her parents; and sisters, Hortense (Hoyt) Bruner, Evelyn Dye, and Elizabeth(Sister) Howe.
Survivors include her son, Floyd Tuttle, Jr. and wife, Lydia of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandsons, Floyd Tuttle III and wife, Jami of Allen, Texas, Jon Tuttle and girlfriend Emily of Chicago, Illinois, Scott Tuttle and girlfriend Kaitlin of Tyler, Texas, and Matt Tuttle of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Alex, Zoe and Ryan Tuttle of Allen, Texas, and special friend and cousin, Frances Stepp of Lone Grove, Oklahoma.
A visitation will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday morning at Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
