Ed graduated from Kansas State University in 1941 with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture, and received his Masters in 1969. This was to be his life's interest--farming the "home place", and teaching vocational agriculture, and he leaves this legacy to hundreds of young men who not only achieved recognition in the class room, but also won every possible award offered through FFA, both on the State and National levels. Setting a good example for his "boys", in Oklahoma City in May, Ed received the 1st place trophy in the Adult Division, nationally.
When he retired from teaching this year, not only did his "boys" present him with another 1st place at the spring contests in Manhattan, but also the University bestowed on him the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Achievement for Leadership in the Field of Agriculture.
Ed taught his first year of school at Syracuse and was then commissioned as a naval aviator an served in the Pacific area from 1942-45. Coming home after the war, he taught at the Bazine High School from 1946 to 1964. From there he went to Ness City High School, where he taught until 1976.
In 1944, Ed married Frances Cech. They had three daughters-Pat, Paula, and Vicki. Frances and Paula preceded him in death.
In 1970, he married Marcile Harkness. His stepson, Jim, died in February of this year.
He leaves his wife, Marcile; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Pat) McPhester and her husband, and Vicki of San Diego; a step-daughter, Mrs. R.L. Parks and her family, and a step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jim Harkness and son, all of Hays; two sisters, Mrs. Vernie (Irene) Antenen of Bazine and Mrs. Henry (Mildred) Kuhlman of Oakley; four brothers, Dr. W.R. Brenner of Larned, Leo Brenner of Bazine, Ben Brenner of Beeler, and Harold Brenner of New Orleans.
