The San Diego Union-Tribune, May 3, 2009:

Mary E. Hoermann, 90, passed away April 26, 2009. Born Mary Elizabeth Hartnett on July 13, 1918 in Weaubleau, Missouri, my mother was the last of seven brothers and sisters and two stepbrothers and a stepsister. After marrying Raymond (Curley) Hoermann and moving to San Diego in 1938, she gave birth to me, William, their only child. Following a stint at Ryan Aeronautical as a "Rosie the Riveter," she went back to school, received an A.A. degree, and worked as a medical assistant for a few years. She then earned a B.S. in sociology at S.D. State and worked for S.D. County Social Services until retirement. After having spent several carefree retirement years in Arizona, health reasons required my folks to move back to SD county in 1996 and Dad passed away in 2003. Mom enticed her last remaining sister to move out here from Missouri in 2005 and they got to spend some quality "Stubborn as a Missouri Mule" time together until Ruth passed away last July at age 92. A series of strokes and the ravages of Alzheimer's finally took Mom away last Sunday. Because she outlasted most of her family and friends, no Services are planned. My beloved mother, a good friend to so many, and lover of all cats, will be cremated according to her wishes, with a portion of the ashes to be scattered on the Pacific, where Dad is, and the remainder in her favorite place, the desert. In lieu of offering flowers or other remembrances, I know my mother would be pleased if you had a cat adopt you or, failing that, if you chose to make a donation to a charity of your choice.
