On December 26, 2013 at 7:30am, Percy J. Blanchard, a native of Pierre Part and long-time resident of Bayou Pigeon, passed away surrounded by his family. He was born on June 10, 1927, during the Great Flood. His family moved to Bayou Pigeon in his early years from Grand Lake. In 1969, he became custodian at Crescent Elementary and Junior High School in Iberville Parish. He retired in 1989. Prior to 1969, he worked in various shipyards and various crew boats. He was the son of the late Oleus Ducroseille Blanchard and Bernadette Enola Landry Blanchard. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Johnny Blackwell, Baton Rouge, Betty and Wilton Leonard, Bayou Pigeon and Grace and Norbert Prejean, Bayou Pigeon, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny and Elizabeth "Beth" Sauer Blanchard, Katy, Texas, and Robert "Bobby" Blanchard, Plaquemine. He is also survived by two sisters, Pearl B. Aucoin and Mae B. Berthelot. Also survived by a brother and three sisters-in-law, Murphy and wife Gloria "Sweet" Blanchard, Florence B. Blanchard and Elma A. Gaudet. Survived by his grandchildren: Kim Haynes and daughter Alexis, Wendy LeBlanc and husband Jerry and daughters, Abigail, Amelia and Alyse, Neil Prejean and daughter Haley, Alicia Fournier and husband Mervin and children Cole and Camille, Steven Leonard and wife Cherie and daughters Lydie, Maggie and Annie, Crystal Leonard, John and Sarah Blanchard. Also, survived by a great great granddaughter, Kammi. Preceded in death by his wife, Maude Faustine Aucoin Blanchard; parents; brothers: Cleveland, Enaux and Eloyd; sister, Agnes Sauce and a great grandson, Chase Michael Prejean. When his health permitted, he loved gardening, maintaining his lawn, fishing crawfish and hunting squirrels, rabbits and deer. His most favorite activity was spending time with his grandkids. They all loved their Paw Paw Noon. Special thanks goes out to Grace, Norbert and Neil. They were Dad's primary caregivers. They gave unselfishly and cared for him until his death. Also to family, friends and neighbors who supported us during his final days. Visitation will be at Wilbert's Funeral Home in Plaquemine on, Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 5 to 9pm with a rosary at 7pm and visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 8 to 10am, with mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:30am, celebrated by Father Clarence Waguespack.
