1921 ~ 2005
Gene Rasmussen Young, dearest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away November 19, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by her children. She was born May 21, 1921 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Jennie Peel and Arthur Freeman Rasmussen. She married Billy Chambers in 1943; they later divorced. She married Willard Barton Young in 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Gene worked at Auerbach's and was an active member of the LDS Church where she served in Wells Ward for many years. She was a Primary teacher, Primary counselor, visiting teacher, and Relief Society counselor. She was a faithful member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved her study groups and dinner club. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She loved a good joke and especially a funny face. Gene was a dear mother and friend. She was a beautiful, elegant woman. A special thanks to St. Joseph Villa for their excellent and tender care. She is survived by five children, Robert Arthur Chambers of Beaver Dam, AZ, Barton Eugene Young of Cedar City, UT, Sydney Anne (Don) Vale of San Diego, CA, Suzan Kaye (Jeff) Bates of Koosharem, UT, Stephanie Young (Dennis) Merzel of Salt Lake City, UT; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and siblings, Sarah Anderson, Kathryn Ritz, Dorothy Smith, Norma Anderson, and Wallace Rasmussen. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard B. Young; one stillborn child; elder sisters, Iris Peterson, Edna Larsen; and younger brother, Ben Rasmussen. Services will be Tuesday, November 22, 2005, 12 noon at Wells Ward LDS chapel, 1990 S. 500 E. Family and friends may call Monday, from 6-8 p.m. at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S. Highland Drive, and Tuesday, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Mt. View Memorial Cemetery.
