Eugene, 88, of Spring Arbor, Michigan, formerly of Flint, MI went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 3, 2014. Mr. York was the son of Harry Merrill and Esther May (Bates) York.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorene (Fidler) York; daughter, Karen (Richard) Smith; four grandchildren, Susan Smith (Martin Warin), Daniel (Megan) Smith, Mark David (Felicia) York, and Christopher Aaron York; two great-grandchildren, Trevor and Evelyn Smith; sister, Cora; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, David York; his parents; two sisters, Shirley Shafer and Phyllis Bergh; brother, Leland York.

Mr. York was a graduate from Mayville High School, and Michigan State University with his Master's plus one year. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

Eugene taught school for many years in various locations, settling in Flint, Michigan where he retired from Flint Public Schools as their Business Manager.

Eugene enjoyed stained glass art, bowling, golf, gardening and sports. He was a life time member of Michigan Education Association, and a member of Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church.

A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, February 8, with Reverend Ward Sipes officiating, at the Free Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SIM USA, Charlotte NC designated for project # 93915, Burkina Faso Fulani Bible School Building Fund.
