Esther May York, age 77, of W. High Street, Mayville, died Monday, September 3, 1984 at the Marlette Extended Care Facility after a lengthy illness.

Esther Bates was born May 26, 1907 in Tuscola Township. She married Harry York on July 16, 1924 in Fremont Township and he passed away in 1970. Mrs. York lived most of her life in Mayville and attended the Watertown Center Missionary Church. She was a life member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene York and wife Lorene of Flushing, Leland York and wife Leora of Mayville; three daughters, Mrs Howard (Phyllis) Bergh of Copper Harbor, Mrs Bruce (Shirley) Shafer of Davison and Mrs Wesley (Cora) Partridge of Grand Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Arthur Bates of Bay City; a sister, Mrs Roland (Reba) O'Brien of Lapeer; several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 1pm Thurs Sept 6 at Mille Memorial Baptist Church in Mayville. Rev. Dean Gilkerson officiated and burial in Fremont Township Cemetery. Arrangements by Collon Funeral Home, Caro. Memorials may be made to WUGM Family Life Radio in Midland.
