Barbara Evers Burke was born January 15, 1933 in Texarkana, Arkansas to Jessie Attaway and Bruce Evers. She married Richard Erle Burke on December 22, 1956, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2003. She is survived by one daughter.

Barbara attended Texarkana Junior College and graduated in 1954 from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She later attended Texas A&M University earning a Master's degree in Education. Barbara taught typing, shorthand, and business procedures and sponsored the yearbook at C.H. Yoe High School in Cameron, Texas from 1955 to her retirement in 1995.

She remained very active in Cameron after retirement, serving many civic organizations and volunteering in the local hospital auxiliary. Barbara was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Cameron, serving in United Methodist Women and other church committees.

In 2008, health concerns prompted a move to Oklahoma City to be closer to her daughter. Her proudest achievements were to be blessed with a career that she loved and being able to make a difference in the young lives of so many students.

On February 5, 2014, she was called home to be with the Lord. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Lakeside United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City.
