Funeral services for Jan Lender were held at 10 A.M., Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, IA. Rev. David Rogula, Pastor, officiated and the musician was Marilyn Kriegel. Special selection was the "The Lord's Prayer." Flower attendants were Doris Manatt, Doris Reida, Shirley Nieman and Dorothy McConnell. Honorary Casket-bearers were Taralyn and Kelby Taylor, and Lindsey, Logan and Landon Seye. Casket-bearers were Steve Plants, Bill Plants, Dick Plants, Dennis Plants, Ronald Plants and Del Miller. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.

Alta Jeannette Starnes Lender, daughter of Harold W. Starnes and Anna W. Bach Starnes, was born February 9, 1933, at Laurel, Iowa.
Jan received her education at Grinnell graduating from Grinnell High School in the class of 1952. She worked for GTE for a short time.
On August 24, 1958, Jan was married to Don Kenneth Lender at the Little Brown Church at Nashau, Iowa. They made their home in Brooklyn and were the parents of three children, Kenneth, Dawnette and Sheryal. Don died October 16, 1990.
Mrs. Lender was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Brooklyn-Victor Country Club. She was active in establishing the Brooklyn Activity Center. Jan enjoyed playing golf and spending time with her grandkids.
Her parents, her husband, and her son, Kenneth Dale, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Dawnette and Greg Taylor of Brooklyn and Sheryal and Steve Seye of Brooklyn; two sisters, Jackie Siepmann of Des Moines and Carol Evans of Searsboro; four brothers, Don Starnes of Grinnell, Dean Starnes of Denver, Colorado, Richard Starnes of England and Dennis Starnes of Grinnell; and five grandchildren, Taralyn and Kelby Taylor, and Lindsey, Logan and Landon Seye.
